The Secret Of Her Success Ed Power
Self-contained, intelligent, and far from the pouting princess of her stage persona, Natalie Imbruglia in person is a cool customer. The singer here discusses Kylie’s recent illness, her hit album Counting Down The Days, being the face of L’Oreal and forthcoming movie projects. “I couldn’t just do the one thing. I’d get bored,” she tells Ed Power.

Counting Down The Days Colin Carberry
About five years ago I grew mildly obsessive over an album of icily beautiful electronica that went by the entirely appropriate title, Closer Colder. It was the debut release from a brilliant and, judging by interviews conducted at the time, emotionally fragile young producer called David Kosten. If you believe Walt Disney’s head is being cryogenically stored in a lab somewhere, this record will be playing in the background.

Johnny English Tara Brady
Okay, the film is very family orientated, and expects that the audience will erupt with laughter at the very mention of the word “poo”, but much more effort could’ve been put into the script, even as a relentlessly puerile exercise.

THERE’S CERTAINLY no keeping up with this particular Jones. As if a collaboration with The Art Of Noise wasn’t trendy enough, the man who legions of Joe Dolan fans would have us believe is Wales’ answer to Joe Dolan goes one better with an entire album of instantly recognisable classics recorded beside an array of the great, the good and the Simply Red of the current musical milieu.

STUART CLARK offers tea and solpadeine, and in return gets the lowdown on American Psycho, trans-Atlantic stalkers and why both Air Supply and the Teletubbies are evil. Pix: Cathal Dawson.

Live At The King Baudouin Stadium, Brussels Brian Beary
There could be no better illustration of how U2 have become global icons. Kick-starting the European leg of their Vertigo tour in Brussels’ King Baudouin Stadium on June 10, the old anti-sectarian favourite ‘Sunday Bloody Sunday’ electrified the crowd like no other. Here, however, it had been transformed from its original intent as a plea to end bloodshed in Northern Ireland into a hymn for religious harmony among the ‘sons of Abraham’ – Christians, Jews and Muslims.
